POSITION PAPER18 October 2023

Response to the European Commission’s consultation on industrial carbon management

RECIPIENT
EU

The Confederation of Swedish Enterprise strongly supports the EU’s goal of achieving climate neutrality by 2050 as well as the 2030 interim emission reduction ambitions set out through the ‘Fit for 55’ legislative package. As part of the efforts to reach this goal, the businesses must – and will – play an essential role in delivering the required capital, technologies, products and innovations. While the Confederation sees significant opportunities for businesses in the transition to climate neutrality, it is also important that the fundamental principles of cost efficiency and competitiveness - as enshrined in the EU Climate Law and the European Green Deal – act as the guide for the EU process as it progresses. Ambitious climate actions can be combined with a high level of competitiveness of European industry, along with continued prosperity and growth of the EU market. These are the key components of a sustainable transition.
