The Russian invasion of Ukraine will cause considerable human suffering and have major consequences for security policy and the global economy, says Jan-Olof Jacke, Director General of Confederation of Swedish Enterprise.
“First of all, this is an enormous tragedy. It is an unprovoked attack on a democracy in our neighbourhood, which will create unimaginable insecurity and uncertainty for many people,” says Jan-Olof Jacke.
The situation will cause great human suffering. In addition, he points out, it will also have other major consequences, affecting both security policy and the global economy.
“I am deeply concerned. Clearly, it will have a significant impact on those companies that are operating in and trading with Russia and Ukraine. In the short term, it’s about providing security for staff, then you have to secure supply chains and IT. The Swedish business community and consumers will be affected - mainly indirectly - but the consequences are difficult to foresee,” he says.
